Our
Story
It began in 1923 with the dream of a remarkable woman, Mrs. Isabel Morrison Hopkins. On one sunny La Jolla day, she stood high above the cliffs overlooking the Pacific and envisioned an elegant, luxurious hotel harmoniously situated on the edge of the sea. What Mrs. Hopkins would soon create was much more than a hotel - she created a legend.

On July 4, 1924, Hotel Casa de Maņana had its grand opening and the 'House of Tomorrow' began an incredible legacy that continues today. Overlooking the sea with picturesque arches, tiled roofs and authentic Spanish architecture, Casa de Maņana quickly became the social hub of La Jolla. Accommodations were exquisite and the cuisine world-class.

In 1953, she sold the hotel and soon after Casa de Mañana had a second grand opening as a luxurious retirement community with 108 charter members in residence. Many of the residents remembered attending social events at the hotel in years past. Isabel Morrison Hopkins died three years later in 1956 at the age of 70. On her last visit to Casa, she remarked that she was particularly pleased with what she described as the 'beautiful contentment' in the residents.
Today, Casa de Mañana's residents live in well-appointed accommodations overlooking the same enchanting sea that inspired Isabel Hopkins more than 80 years ago.
Casa de Mañana is part of the Front Porch family of communities and is supported philanthropically by the Pacific Homes Foundation. |
